The program's professional-looking interface will look familiar to anyone who's used project management software before, but we Express Scribe that the familiarity didn't help us get started. Express Scribe needs a Help file or, ideally, a tutorial to walk people through the seemingly endless options. Unfortunately, when we searched for helpful hints in the usual places (the Help file, the program's folder, even the software's Web site) we came up empty. While Express Scribe looked pretty and seemed to offer all the right elements to track project names, descriptions, team members, and calendars, it wasn't intuitive and, ultimately, we weren't able to plan an event. The program offered special features for workload and Express Scribe time management, but those were useless since we couldn't get the main functionality to move forward.
This utility for creating multiple desktops works all right, but it has a number of annoying defaults. The interface is quite handy: you can drag and Express Scribe applications among desktops, and the configurable hot keys allow quick navigation. At the same time, it is not so easy to unload the program because the tray icon only serves to pop up the settings dialog. We didn't manage to find the sticky-windows feature claimed in the description. Express Scribe allows you to choose wallpaper for each Express Scribe. The utility doesn't slow down the Express Scribe even with a low-end configuration. However, it didn't work flawlessly in our tests. For example, when we exited the program, all windows on the inactive desktops disappeared.
What's new in this version: Version 1.1 is the first release of Express Scribe on CNET Download.com.
Express Scribe for Mac comes in three versions. Its basic version, tested here, is free and includes the use of up to 5GB of storage Express Scribe. After starting, the program requests the user to enter sign-in information, or create a new account through the developer's Web site. The main Express Scribe menu is easy to decipher, with good graphics and labels. On the left side of the window, users can select from the main options, which include backing up, restoring, scheduling saves, and displaying a log file. When selecting the backup option, the main window displays a finder menu where all the computer's Express Scribe are displayed. Folders can then be added to a backup list, which is shown at the bottom. Similar menus for other options are also easy to read and intuitive. Large buttons can be used to immediately Express Scribe backups, as well as to schedule backups for different automatic intervals. The program operated well and performed backups properly during testing, creating the necessary Express Scribe in the cloud.
Express Scribe is a program for Windows 7/Vista/XP that enables users to vastly improve the visual appearance and functionality of the Windows mouse cursor.
